2025.01.16 City of Kuwana and UMC Delegation Visits NYCU to Strengthen Taiwan-Japan Semiconductor Ties

 A delegation from the City of Kuwana in Mie Prefecture led by the mayor, along with representatives from Taiwan’s leading semiconductor foundry UMC, led by the Vice President, visited NYCU for an exchange of ideas.

UMC operates a factory in Kuwana through its Japanese subsidiary, where several NYCU alumni are currently employed.

 During the visit, TJEO provided an overview of NYCU and its ongoing collaborations with institutions in Japan. The UMC delegation expressed appreciation for NYCU’s role in nurturing talent for the semiconductor industry in Japan. The representatives from the City of Kuwana also introduced their initiatives to support foreign residents in the city such as the multilingual communication efforts and consultation services. 

 A video created by the City of Kuwana and UMC was also featured during the meeting, showcasing a conversation between NYCU alumni and the Mayor of Kuwana, as well as a video message from alumni to their advisory professors in NYCU. The footage illustrated how NYCU alumni have successfully adapted to life in Japan and making meaningful contributions in their careers.

2025年1月16日 三重県桑名市、UMCの皆さんが陽明交通大学を訪問しました

 三重県桑名市から市長ら一行と、台湾の半導体ファウンドリー大手UMCの副社長一行が意見交換のため陽明交通大を訪問しました。同市にはUMCの日本法人の工場が立地し、陽明交通大の卒業生が勤務しています。

 訪問では、台日交流推進室から大学の概要や、日本との交流状況について説明を行いました。UMCからは、日本で働く人材を大学から輩出してくれたことへの謝意が伝えられたほか、桑名市からは、同市の外国人住民向けの施策である多言語での情報発信や外国人相談窓口などの紹介がありました。

 その後、桑名市とUMCが作成した卒業生と市長の懇談の映像や、卒業生の指導教官にあてたビデオレターが放映され、卒業生たちが日本での生活になじみながら活躍している様子が窺えました。
